Message From Chairman
It is my privilege to welcome you to the Department of Microbiology (MB) at Jashore University of Science and Technology (JUST).
JUST envisions fostering innovation in science and technology through a knowledge-based culture of excellence that serves the nation and the world. Our department shares that aim. We seek to produce high-quality microbiologists with academic and scientific excellence who can meet local and global demand in manufacturing, research, and service industries. To achieve this, we combine outcome-based education, modern research facilities, and leadership development so that our graduates are internationally competent, innovative, and ethically grounded.
My own academic path shapes how I hope to lead. I joined JUST as a lecturer in 2011 and later completed my PhD in life sciences at Kumamoto University, Japan, as a HIGO Program scholar. My doctoral research on the ubiquitin-proteasome system and protein homeostasis, including links to neurodegenerative disease, taught me that good science needs rigorous training, curiosity, and an understanding of the health needs of the community it serves.
With this in mind, my vision for the department rests on four commitments:
- Quality teaching and learning, through outcome-based curricula that are regularly reviewed.
- Research capacity, by involving students in research early and building collaborations with local and international institutions.
- Societal and industry relevance, by linking graduates to healthcare, biotechnology, pharmaceutical, food, and environmental sectors and promoting entrepreneurship.
- Public-private collaboration, by bringing universities, government agencies, and private industry together through joint research projects, internships, and technology transfer that turn laboratory knowledge into products and services for the nation.
Together, students, faculty, and partners can make this department a center of excellence in microbiology for Bangladesh and beyond.
